TOUR CODE: WESTAF
See Australia’s wild side on this bucket list journey along the West Coast, home to an incredible and diverse array of native wildlife and some of the best conditions in the world to swim with ocean giants. The west is teaming with wildlife, from kangaroos, dolphins, whale sharks and turtles to endangered black-footed rock wallabies and endemic birdlife and fish species. This itinerary encompasses 3 distinct and diverse regions of Western Australia, each home to an exceptional luxury lodge or camp experience that offer a very personal connection to this vast land, the wilderness, its wildlife, the culture and its people.
Your journey starts with an overnight stay at the award-winning COMO The Treasury. Make yourself at home in one of the 48 guestrooms featuring pillowtop beds with Egyptian cotton sheets and private bathrooms with separate bathtubs. Pamper yourself with onsite massages, body treatments, and facials. You’re sure to appreciate the recreational amenities, including an indoor pool and a 24-hour fitness center. Grab a bite at Wildflower, one of the hotel’s 4 restaurants, or stay in and take advantage of the 24-hour room service.
Transfer to the Margaret River for a three- night stay at the luxurious Cape Lodge. Set in 40 acres of lush, forested gardens and overlooking a private lake, Cape Lodge has an idyllic country setting. This boutique hotel has 18 luxuriously appointed suites and an excellent restaurant, which uses local ingredients to produce wonderful cuisine, and is complimented by the area’s wines. The hotel is surrounded by vineyards and a short drive from the spectacular Indian Pacific, as well as being close to the region’s many restaurants, galleries, wineries, and beaches. The Lodge offers a range of optional tours (additional expense) including sunset cruises and sailing charters. There are also cooking demonstrations and hand-on cooking classes available (limited availability).
Return to Perth by private vehicle for an overnight stay before traveling north to Learmonth and Sal Salis (flight no included) – where the outback meets the reef. Luxe wilderness eco tents hidden among the dunes overlook the world’s largest fringing coral reef, the Ningaloo. This wild bush luxury camp provides a unique place from which to explore Western Australia’s coral coast and one of Australia’s best-kept natural secrets. Choose to fill your days at Sal Salis however you like, from whale shark experiences, to kayaking, hiking and much more. See red kangaroos, wallaroos, rock wallabies and birdlife such as fairy wrens, kestrels, zebra finches. Explore the reef with minimal interference to the ecosystem and kayak to spots further offshore where an anchor is dropped in the sand to enjoy a snorkel of Blue Lagoon or Osprey Bay.
Return to Learmonth and fly to Kununurra (flight not included). An overnight stay in Perth may be required if flights do not connect. An additional night in Perth may be required (own expense).
On arrival in Kununurra, you will be met and transferred to your El Questro Homestead. Located in the middle of almost one million acres of wilderness park and 62 miles from the nearest town, the luxury of the El Questro Homestead sits in stark contrast to Western Australia’s rugged Kimberley landscape.
Refined comfort has arrived in the outback. El Questro Homestead is a soothing six-room refuge in million-acre El Questro Wilderness Park, set amid vast manicured lawns and leafy gardens. The hotel’s timber verandas, linen- covered furniture, and recycled wood beds bring a rustic yet contemporary feel to the bush. There are plenty of opportunities for getting up close and personal with nature, including hikes to Champagne Springs and soaks in the thermal pools of Zebedee Springs, which local Aborigines believe have healing qualities. You could also absorb it all in one fell swoop: scenic helicopter flights are the only way to access some distant water holes, making for a lofty immersion into the park’s vast and varied terrain.
Your Western Australia vacation ends with a transfer back to Kununurra Airport.
All trips include 24-hour emergency travel assistance.
